Theophilos means "a friend of God" or "a lover of God". Theophilos (or Theophilus in Latin) mentioned by Luke (Lk 1:3) was a person we do not know much about. All we know is that he was a man of honor and probably a high ranking Roman officer. Scholars agree that it is more than certain that he was a Christian.
