Yehoshua (יהושע)elected the shneym Asar talmidim

(Mark 3:13-19; 6:7-13; Luke 6:12-16; 9:1-6)

10:1 And when he had called to [him] his Shneym Asar (Twelve) talmidim, he gave them power [against] shedim (unclean spirits), to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

10:2 Now the shemot Shneym Asar (Twelve) shlichim are these; The first, Shimon, who is called Kefa, and Andrew his brother; Yaakov Ben Zavedi, and Yochanan his brother;

10:3 Philip, and Bar-Talmai; Toma, and MattitYahu the publican; Yaakov ben Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

10:4 Shimon Zealot, and Yehudah from Kriot, who also betrayed Him.

Special commission and instruction from Yehoshua (יהושע)5- 15

(Matt 10:5-15; Mk 6:7-13; Lk6:12-13; Lk 9:1-6) - How were the talmidim selected?

10:5 These Shneym Asar (Twelve) Yehoshua (יהושע) sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into ha derek Goyim, and into [any] city of the Shomron enter you not:

10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the Beit Yisrael. (Yochanan 4:22)

10:7 And as you go, proclaim, saying, "The Malkut Shamayim is at hand. "

10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the metzoraim (lepers), raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have received, freely give.

10:9 Provide neither zahav, nor kesef, nor brass in your purses,

10:10 Nor bag for [your] journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his support.

10:11 And into whatsoever city or town you shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till you go thence.

10:12 And when you come into an bayit, salute it.

10:13 And if the bayit chayil (a house of worthiness), let your shalom come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your shalom return to you.

10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that bayit or city, shake off the dust of your feet (Nier chatzno).

10:15 Truly I say to you:

It shall be more tolerable for the eretz Sedom and Amora in Yom haDin, than for that city.

The talmidim should anticipate persecution

(Mark 13:9-13; Luke 21:12-17)

10:16 Hinnei, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be you therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

10:17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their Shuls;

10:18 And you shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a edut against them and the Goyim.

10:19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak.

10:20 For it is not you that speak, but the Ruach Avichem which speaketh in you.

10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against [their] parents, and cause them to be put to death.

10:22 And you shall be hated of all [men] for My Name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee you into another:

For truly I say to you:

Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Yisrael, till BEN ADAM be come.

10:24 The talmidim is not above [his] Rabbi, nor the eved above his Adonay.

10:25 It is enough for the talmidim that he be as his Rabbi, and the servant as his Adonay. If they have called the master of the bayit Beel-Zevuv, how much more [shall they call] them of his household?

Admonition Against Fear

(Luke 12:2-7)

10:26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

10:27 What I tell you in darkness, [that] speak you in light: and what you hear in the ear, [that] proclaim you upon the rooftops.

10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion (one tenth of a drachma, 1 cent)? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Avi.

10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

10:31 Fear you not therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.

Confessing Mashiach before Men

(Luke 12:8,9)

10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My AVI which is in Shamayim.

10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in Shamayim.

Change brings Conflict

(Luke 12:51-53; 14:16-27)

10:34 Think not that I am come to send shalom on eretz: I came not to send shalom, but a sword.

10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

10:36 And a man's foes [shall be] they of his own household.

10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

10:38 And he that takes not his stauros (stake), and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.

10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Rewards for Service

(Mark 9:41)

10:40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent Me.

10:41 He that receiveth a Navi in the name of a Navi shall receive a Navi's reward; and he that receiveth a tzedek man in the name of a Tzedek man shall receive a Tzedek man's reward.

10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold [mayim] only in the name of a talmidim, verily I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

The word Shliach means apostle, plural Shlichim means the Sent Ones, the greek word for apostle is apostolos meaning a Malak, one sent forth with orders. An apostle was one who was an eyewitness of the death burial and  resurrection of Mashiach, His earthly ministry and most important of all they  must have seen the Risen Adonay.

Nier chatzno (shake out. the fold of the robe,. wash one's hands). In Biblical times, when leaving Goyim cities, pious Yehudim often shook the dust from their feet to show their separation from Goyim practices. Here Yeshua was teaching his taught ones that if some people will not listen to the message, their time could be better spent going to someone who will listen. If the Taught ones shook the dust of a Jewish town from their feet, it would show their separation from Jews who rejected their Messiah. Matt 10:14, Markos 6:11 Loukas 9:5-6; Acts 13:51-52

10:25 Beel-Zevuv is meaning lord of flies, the name of the prince of the demons it is a title of a heathen diety (Mt 9:34; 12:24; Mk 3:22; Luke 11:15)
