The Number and duties chapter 3 and chapter 4

3:1(iv) Consecrate the Inner Circle

These also [are] the toledah of Aharon and Mosheh in the day [that] YHWH (יהוה) spake with Mosheh in Mount Sinai.

3:2 And these [are] the shemot of the sons Aharon; Nadav the bachor, and Avihu, Eleazar, and Itamar.

3:3 These [are] the shemot of the sons Aharon, the kohens which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the kohen's office.

3:4 And Nadav and Avihu died before YHWH (יהוה), when they offered strange fire before YHWH (יהוה), in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Itamar ministered in the kohen's office in the sight of Aharon their father.

3:5 And YHWH (יהוה) spake unto Mosheh, saying:

3:6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aharon the kohen, that they may minister unto him.

3:7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the Ohel Mo'ed, to do the service of the Mishkan .

3:8 And they shall keep all the instruments of the Ohel Mo'ed, and the charge of Benai Yisrael, to do the service of the Mishkan.

3:9 And thou shalt give the Leviim unto Aharon and to his sons: they [are] wholly given unto him out of Benai Yisrael.

3:10 And thou shalt appoint Aharon and his sons, and they shall wait on their kohen's office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

3:11 And YHWH (יהוה) spake unto Mosheh, saying,

3:12 And I, behold, I have taken the Leviim from among Benai Yisrael instead of all the bachor that openeth the matrix among Benai Yisrael: therefore the Leviim shall be mine;

3:13 Because all the bachor [are] mine; [for] on the day that I smote all the bachor in the Eretz Mitzrayim I hallowed unto me all the bachor in Yisrael, both man and beast: mine shall they be: ANI YHWH (יהוה).

3:14(v) Now, Count the Levites

And YHWH (יהוה) spake unto Mosheh in the wilderness of Sinai, saying:

3:15 Number Benai Levi after the house their avot, by their mishpekhot (families): every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them.

3:16 And Mosheh numbered them according to the dvar YHWH (יהוה), as he was commanded.

3:17 And these were the sons Levi by their names; Gershon, and Kohat, and M'rari.

3:18 And these [are] the shemot of the sons Gershon by their mishpekhot (families); Libni, and Shimei.

3:19 And the sons Kohat by their mishpekhot (families); Amram, and Izehar, Hevron, and Uzzi'el.

3:20 And the sons M'rari by their mishpekhot (families); Mahli, and Mushi. These [are] the mishpekhot (families) of the Leviim according to the house their avot.

3:21 Of Gershon [was] the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimites: these [are] the mishpekhot (families) of the Gershonites.

3:22 Those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, [even] those that were numbered of them [were] seven thousand and five hundred. 7,500

3:23 The mishpekhot (families) of the Gershonites shall pitch behind the Mishkan westward.

3:24 And the chief of the house the father of the Gershonites [shall be] Eliasaf Ben La'el.

3:25 And the charge of the sons Gershon in the Ohel Mo'ed [shall be] the Mishkan , and the tent, the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the Ohel Mo'ed,

3:26 And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which [is] by the Mishkan , and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.

3:27 And of Kohat [was] the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izeharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these [are] the mishpekhot (families) of the Kohatites.

3:28 In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, [were] eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. 8,600

3:29 The mishpekhot (families) of the sons Kohat shall pitch on the side of the Mishkan southward.

3:30 And the chief of the house the father of the mishpekhot (families) of the Kohatites [shall be] Elizafan Ben Uzziel.

3:31 And their charge [shall be] the ark, and the table, and the menorah, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the hanging, and all the service thereof.

3:32 And Eleazar Ben Aharon the kohen [shall be] chief over the chief of the Leviim, [and have] the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.

3:33 Of M'rari [was] the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites: these [are] the mishpekhot (families) of M'rari.

3:34 And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, [were] six thousand and two hundred.

3:35 And the chief of the house the father of the mishpekhot (families) of M'rari [was] Zuriel Ben Abihail: [these] shall pitch on the side of the Mishkan northward.

3:36 And [under] the custody and charge of the sons M'rari [shall be] the boards of the Mishkan , and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and the sockets thereof, and all the vessels thereof, and all that serveth thereto,

3:37 And the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords.

3:38 But those that encamp before the Mishkan toward the east, [even] before the Ohel Mo'ed eastward, [shall be] Mosheh, and Aharon and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of Benai Yisrael; and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

3:39 All that were numbered of the Leviim, which Mosheh and Aharon numbered at the commandment of YHWH (יהוה), throughout their mishpekhot (families), all the males from a month old and upward, [were] twenty and two thousand. 22,000

3:40 (vi) Levites for Firstborns

And YHWH (יהוה) said unto Mosheh:

Number all the bachor of the males of Benai Yisrael from a month old and upward, and take the number of their shemot.

3:41 And thou shalt take the Leviim for me ANI YHWH (יהוה) instead of all the bachor among Benai Yisrael; and the cattle of the Leviim instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of Benai Yisrael.

3:42 And Mosheh numbered, as YHWH (יהוה) commanded him, all the bachor among Benai Yisrael.

3:43 And all the bachor males by the number of shemot, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen. 22,300

3:44 And YHWH (יהוה) spake unto Mosheh, saying,

3:45 Take the Leviim instead of all the bachor among Benai Yisrael, and the cattle of the Leviim instead of their cattle; and the Leviim shall be mine: ANI YHWH (יהוה).

3:46 And for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the bachor of Benai Yisrael, which are more than the Leviim;

3:47 Thou shalt even take five shekels apiece by the poll, after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take [them]: (the shekel [is] twenty gerahs:)

3:48 And thou shalt give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aharon and to his sons.

3:49 And Mosheh took the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Leviim:

3:50 Of the bachor of Benai Yisrael took he the money; a thousand three hundred and threescore and five [shekels], after the shekel of the sanctuary:

3:51 And Mosheh gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aharon and to his sons, according to the Dvar YHWH (יהוה), as YHWH (יהוה) commanded Mosheh.
