Now benai Reuven and benai Gad had a very great multitude of mikneh (livestock): and when they saw the eretz Yazer, and the eretz Gil'ad, that, hinnei, the makom (place) [was] a makom for mikneh (livestock);
32:2 Benai Gad and benai Reuven came and spake unto Mosheh, and to Eleazar Kohen, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,
32:3 Ataroth, and Divon, and Yazer, and Nimrah, and Heshvon, and Elealeh, and Shevam, and Nevo, and Beon,
32:4 [Even] the country which YHWH (יהוה) smote before the congregation of Yisrael, [is] a eretz for mikneh (livestock), and thy avadim have mikneh (livestock):
32:5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this eretz be given unto thy avadim for a possession, [and] bring us not over Yarden.
32:6 And Mosheh said unto benai Gad and to benai Reuven, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?
32:7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of benai Yisrael from going over into the eretz which YHWH (יהוה) hath given them?
32:8 Thus did your avot, when I sent them from Kadesh-Barnea to see the eretz.
32:9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshkol, and saw the eretz, they discouraged the heart of benai Yisrael, that they should not go into the eretz which YHWH (יהוה) had given them.
32:10 And YHWH (יהוה)'S anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,
32:11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Mitzrayim, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the eretz which I sware unto Avraham, unto Yitzchak, and unto Yaakov; because they have not wholly followed me:
32:12 Save Kalev Ben Yefunneh the Kenezite, and Yehoshua Ben Nun: for they have wholly followed YHWH (יהוה).
32:13 And YHWH (יהוה)'S anger was kindled against Yisrael, and he made them wander in the midbar arba'im shanah (40 yrs), until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of YHWH (יהוה), was consumed.
32:14 And, hinnei, ye are risen up in your avot' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of YHWH (יהוה) toward Yisrael.
32:15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
32:16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our mikneh (livestock), and cities for our little ones:
32:17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before benai Yisrael, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the eretz.
32:18 We will not return unto our bayit, until benai Yisrael have inherited every man his inheritance.
32:19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Yarden, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Yarden eastward.
And Mosheh said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before YHWH (יהוה) to war,
32:21 And will go all of you armed over Yarden before YHWH (יהוה), until he hath driven out his oyevim (enemies) from before him,
32:22 And the eretz be subdued before YHWH (יהוה): then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before YHWH (יהוה), and before Yisrael; and this eretz shall be your possession before YHWH (יהוה).
32:23 But if ye will not do so, hinnei, ye have sinned against YHWH (יהוה): and be sure your sin will find you out.
32:24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.
32:25 And benai Gad and benai Reuven spake unto Mosheh, saying, Thy avadim will do as my master commandeth.
32:26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our mikneh (livestock), shall be there in the cities of Gil'ad:
32:27 But thy avadim will pass over, every man armed for war, before YHWH (יהוה) to battle, as my master saith.
32:28 So concerning them Mosheh commanded Eleazar Kohen, and Yeshoshua Ben Nun, and the Rashei Avot HaMattot shevet benai Yisrael:
32:29 And Mosheh said unto them, If benai Gad and benai Reuven will pass with you over Yarden, every man armed to battle, before YHWH (יהוה), and the eretz shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the eretz Gil'ad for a possession:
32:30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the eretz Kenaan.
32:31 And benai Gad and benai Reuven answered, saying, As YHWH (יהוה) hath said unto thy avadim, so will we do.
32:32 We will pass over armed before YHWH (יהוה) into the eretz Kenaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Yarden [may be] ours.
32:33 And Mosheh gave unto them, [even] to benai Gad, and to benai Reuven, and unto half the shevet Menasheh Ben Yosef, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Emorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the eretz, with the cities thereof in the coasts, [even] the cities of the country round about.
32:34 And benai Gad built Divon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,
32:35 And Atroth, Shofan, and Yaazer, and Yogbehah,
32:36 And Beit nimrah, and Beit Haran, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.
32:37 And benai Reuven built Heshvon, and Elealeh, and Kiryat aim,
32:38 And Nevo, and Ba'al Meon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.
And benai Machir Ben Menasheh went to Gil'ad, and took it, and dispossessed the Emorite which [was] in it.
32:40 And Mosheh gave Gil'ad unto Machir Ben Menasheh; and he dwelt therein.
32:41 And Yair Ben Menasheh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them HavothYair.
32:42 And Novah went and took Kenat, and the villages thereof, and called it Novah, after his own name.
