50:1 And Yosef fell upon his avi's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

50:2 And Yosef commanded his avadim the physicians to embalm his av: and the physicians embalmed Yisrael.

50:3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Mitzrites mourned for him threescore and ten days.

50:4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Yosef spoke to the beit of Paroh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Paroh, saying,

50:5 My av made me swear, saying, hinnei, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the eretz Kenaan, there shall you bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my av, and I will come again.

50:6 And Paroh said, Go up, and bury thy av, according as he made thee swear.

50:7 And Yosef went up to bury his av: and with him went up all the avadim of Paroh, the zekenim of his beit, and all the zekenim of the eretz Mitzrayim,

50:8 And all the beit of Yosef, and his achim (brethren), and his av's beit: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the eretz Goshen.

50:9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

50:10 And they came to the goren (threshing floor) of Atad, which [is] beyond Yarden, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his av seven days.

50:11 And when the inhabitants of the eretz, the Kenaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This [is] a grievous mourning to the Mitzrites: wherefore the name of it was called Evel Mitzrayim, which [is] beyond Yarden.

50:12 And his banim did to him according as he commanded them:

50:13 For his banim carried him into the eretz Kenaan, and buried him in the me'arah (cave) of the field of Makpelah (מכפּלה), which Avraham (אברהם) bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

50:14 And Yosef returned into Mitzrayim, he, and his achim (brethren), and all that went up with him to bury his av, after he had buried his av.

50:15 And when Yosef's achim (brethren) saw that their av was dead, they said, Yosef will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did to him.

50:16 And they sent a messenger to Yosef, saying, Thy av did command before he died, saying,

50:17 So shall ye say to Yosef, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy achim (brethren), and their sin; for they did to thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the avadim of the Elohim (אלהים) of thy av. And Yosef wept when they spoke to him.

50:18 And his achim (brethren) also went and fell down before his face; and they said, hinei, we [be] thy avadim.

50:19 And Yosef said to them, Fear not: for [am] I in the place of Elohim (אלהים)?

50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; [but] Elohim (אלהים) meant it to good, to bring to pass, as [it is] this day, to save much people alive.

50:21 (vii) Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.

50:22 And Yosef dwelt in Mitzrayim, he, and his av's beit: and Yosef lived an hundred and ten years.

(Maftir)

50:23 And Yosef saw Efrayim (אפרים)'s children of the third [generation]: the children also of Makir Ben Menasheh were brought up upon Yosef's knees.

50:24 And Yosef said to his achim (brethren), I die: and Elohim (אלהים) will surely visit you, and bring you out of this eretz to the eretz which he sware to Avraham (אברהם), to Yitzchak (יצחק), and to Yaakov (יעקב).

50:25 And Yosef took an oath of Benai Yisrael, saying, Elohim (אלהים) will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

50:26 So Yosef died, [being] an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Mitzrayim.

It is customary for the congregation followed by the reader to proclaim:

חֲזַק!  חֲזַק!  וְנִתְחַזֵּק!

Chazak! chazak! v'nit Chazak!

Be strong, Be Strong, and May we be strengthened!

Php 4:13  I can do all things through Messiah who strengthens me.
