The First Message of rebuke

1:1 In the Shenayim shanah (2nd yr) le Daryavesh the melekh, in the sixth (Elul) month, in ha Yom Echad la hodesh, ha ya Dvar YHWH (יהוה) by Chagai (חגּי) ha Navi el Zeruv-Bavel (זרבּבל) Ben Sh'altiel (שׁאלתּיאל), governor of Yehudah, and to Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) Ben Yeho'tzadak (יהוצדק), Kohen haGadol, saying,

1:2 Thus speaketh YHWH (יהוה) Tzva'ot, saying:

This people say, The time is not come, the time that Beit YHWH (יהוה) should be built.

The condition of the exiles:

Hashem's disciple because of disobedience

1:3 Then came Dvar YHWH (יהוה) by Chagai (חגּי) ha Navi, saying:

1:4 [Is it] time for you, O ye, to dwell in your paneled batim, and this Beit [lie] waste?

1:5 Ve ata ko amar YHWH (יהוה) Tzva'ot;

Simu Levavkhem al-darkheikhem:

Consider your ways.

1:6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages [to put it] into a bag with holes.

1:7 Ko amar YHWH (יהוה) Tzva'ot:

Simu Levavkhem al-darkheikhem:

Consider your ways.

1:8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the Beit; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith YHWH (יהוה).

1:9 Ye looked for much, and, behold, [it came] to little; and when ye brought [it] home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith YHWH (יהוה) Tzva'ot. Because of Mine Beit that [is] waste, and ye run every man unto his own Beit.

1:10 Therefore the shamayim over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed [from] her fruit.

1:11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon [that] which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

The First Message of Encouragement

1:12 Then Zeruv-Bavel Ben Sh'altiel (שׁאלתּיאל), and Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) Ben Yeho'tzadak (יהוצדק), the Kohen Gadol, with all the she'erit (remnant) of the people, obeyed the voice of YHWH (יהוה) their Elohim (אלהים), and the words of Chagai (חגּי) ha Navi, as YHWH (יהוה) their Elohim (אלהים) had sent him, and the people did fear before YHWH (יהוה).

1:13 Then spake Chagai (חגּי) YHWH (יהוה)'S messenger in YHWH (יהוה)'S message unto the people, saying:

I [am] with you, saith YHWH (יהוה).

1:14 And YHWH (יהוה) stirred up the ruach of Zeruv-Bavel Ben Sh'altiel (שׁאלתּיאל), governor of Yehudah, and the ruach of Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) Ben Yeho'tzadak (יהוצדק), Kohen ha Gadol, and the ruach of all the she'erit (remnant) of the people; and they came and did work in the Beit YHWH (יהוה) Tzva'ot, their Elohim (אלהים),

1:15 Be yom esrim ve arba a la hodesh ba shishi bish nat shetayim shaneh le Daryavesh the melekh.
