Heaven— HaShem's Presence Again (2:1-6)

2:1 Again there was a day when Benai ha Elohim (אלהים) came to present themselves before ADONAI (יהוה), and satan (שׂטן) came also among them to present himself before ADONAI (יהוה).

2:2  And ADONAI (יהוה) said to satan (שׂטן),

From whence comest you?

And satan (שׂטן) answered ADONAI (יהוה), and said,

From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

2:3 And ADONAI  (יהוה) said to satan (שׂטן),

have you considered my servant Iyov (איּו), that [there is] none like him in the earth, a blameless and a yashar (upright) man, one that fear Elohim (אלהים), and shunned evil? and still he hold fast his integrity, although you movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

2:4 And satan (שׂטן) answered ADONAI (יהוה), and said,

Skin for skin, yea, all that a man have will he give for his life.

2:5 But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.

The Adversary second assault health gone

2:6  And ADONAI (יהוה) said to satan (שׂטן),

Behold, he [is] in your hand; but save his life.

2:7 So went satan (שׂטן) forth from the presence of ADONAI (יהוה), and smote Iyov (איּו) with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.

2:8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

2:9 Then said his wife to him

" Dost you still retain your integrity? curse Elohim (אלהים), and die."

2:10 But he said to her:

"You speaks as one of the foolish women speaks.

What? shall we receive good at the hand of Elohim (אלהים), and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Iyov (איּו) sin with his lips.

2:11 Now when Iyov (איּו)'s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

2:12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

2:13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word to him: for they saw that [his] grief was very great.

Eliphaz = "my EL is (fine) gold"- one of the outspoken and maligners, a pious and prominent person, orthodox in his views of Eloah's greatness sadly lacking in compassion. He becomes harsher

Temanite or Temani = see Teman “southward”

Bildad = “confusing (by mingling) love”

Shuhite = see Shua “wealth” an snic appellative applied only to Bildad, the friend of Job

Zophar = “sparrow” the 3rd friend of Iyov, Zophar is called a Naamathite

sprinkled dust on head 塵土落在自己的頭上is an expression of grief when experiencing calamity in life, Dust is a symbol of our human mortality and frailty, and our sinful nature in Barasheet 3:19: By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground. Iyov understood this verse because of sin that every human living being must die.
