Haftarah Tol'dot Beresheet 25:19-28:9 - Malachi 1:1-2:7

ADONAI's charges against Yisrael, their replies and His threatened Mishpatim

1:1 The burden of Davar ADONAI (יהוה) to Yisrael by Malakhi (מלאכי ).

1:2 I have ahavah you, said ADONAI (יהוה). Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou ahavah us? [Was] not Esav Ya'akov's brother? said ADONAI (יהוה): yet I ahavah Ya'akov,

1:3 And I sane (hated) Esav, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the midbar.

1:4 Whereas Edom said, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The Gebul Rishah (border of Wickedness), and, The people against whom ADONAI (יהוה) hath indignation for ever.

1:5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, ADONAI (יהוה) will be magnified from the border of Yisrael.

Sacrilege by Kohanim

1:6 A son honours [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I [be] a father, where [is] mine honour? and if I [be] a master, where [is] my fear? said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot to you, O Kohen, that despise My Name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised Thy Name?

1:7 Ye offer mego'al (defiled); lechem upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we mego'al (defiled); thee? In that ye say, The shulchan ADONAI (יהוה) [is] contemptible.

1:8 And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, [is it] not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, [is it] not evil? offer it now to thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot.

1:9 And now, I pray you, beseech EL that He will be gracious to us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot.

1:10 Who [is there] even among you that would shut the doors [for nought]? neither do ye kindle [fire] on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot, neither will I accept an minchah at your hand.

1:11 For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same My Name [shall be] gadol among the goyim; and in every place incense [shall be] offered to My Name, and a pure minchah: for My Name [shall be] gadol among ha goy, said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot.

1:12 But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The shulchan ADONAI (יהוה) [is] mego'al (defiled); and the fruit thereof, [even] his okel (אכל food), [is] contemptible.

1:13 Ye said also, Hinnei, what a weariness [is it]! and ye have snuffed at it, said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot; and ye brought [that which was] torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an minchah: should I accept this of your hand? said ADONAI (יהוה).

1:14 But cursed [be] the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices to Adonay a corrupt thing: for ANI Melekh gadol, said ADONAI (יהוה) Tzava'ot, and My Name [is] dreadful among ha goy.
