The Wilderness of Sin

Yisrael murmuring, grummings lechem

Read Mattityahua chapter 4 - refer the temptation of Yisrael vs Mashiach's temptation

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not a Kohen HaGadol which cannot be touched with the feeling of our weakness; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

15th Iyyar 2449??

Parshas HaMan ( A Tefillah for Parnassah / A Prayer for Livelihood ) - verse 4-36 The Gemara (Berachot 8a) teaches, "one should always finish the Parshiot with the community [by studying] Shnayim Mikra V'echad Targum (the Parsha twice and Targum Onkelos once)." The Aruch Hashulchan (O.C. 285:2) notes that this is a rabbinical obligation. It seems that women are not obligated to study Shemot (the common acronym for Shnayim Mikra V'echad Targum)

16:1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the benai Yisrael came to the midbar of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Mitzrayim.

Vayilonu:

And the whole congregation of Yisrael murmured against Moshe and Aharon in the wilderness,

16:3 And the benai Yisrael said to them:

Would to Elohim we had died by the hand of ADONAI (יהוה) in  the land of Mitzrayim, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat lechem to the full; for you have brought us forth into this midbar, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

Vayomer ADONAI el-Moshe hineni mamtir lachem lechem min-hashamayim veyatza ha'am velaketu devar-yom beyomo lema'an anasenu (נַסֶּ֛)  hayelech betorati im-lo.

Then said ADONAI (יהוה) to Moshe:

"Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test  them, whether they will walk in My Torati or not.

16:5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare [that] which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

16:6 And Moshe and Aharon said to all the benai Yisrael, At even, then you shall know that ADONAI (יהוה) has brought you out from the land of Mitzrayim:

16:7 וּבֹקֶר וּרְאִיתֶם אֶת-כְּבוֹד יְהֹוָה בְּשָמְעוֹ אֶת-תְּלֻנֹּתֵיכֶם עַל-יְהֹוָה וְנַחְנוּ מָה כִּי תַלִּונוּ תַלִּינוּעָלֵינוּ׃

Uvoker ure'item et-kevod Adonai beshame'o et-telunoteichem al-Adonai venachnu mah ki talivnu talinu aleinu.

And in the morning, then you shall see the glory of ADONAI (יהוה); for that He hears your murmuring against ADONAI (יהוה): and what are we, that you murmur against us?

Vayomer Moshe betet ADONAI lachem ba'erev basar le'echol velechem baboker lisboa bishmoa ADONAI et-telunoteichem asher-'atem malinim alav venachnu mah lo-'aleinu telunoteichem ki al-ADONAI

And Moshe said: This shall be when ADONAI (יהוה) gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread in the morning to the full, because ADONAI (יהוה) has heard your murmuring, which you murmur against us: and what are we? For your murmuring is not against us, but against ADONAI (יהוה).

16:9 And Moshe spoke to Aharon:

Say to all the congregation of the benai Yisrael, Come near before ADONAI (יהוה): for he has heard your telunnot.

16:10 And it came to pass, as Aharon spoke to the whole congregation of the benai Yisrael, that they looked toward the midbar, and, Hinnei, the kavod of ADONAI (יהוה) appeared in the cloud.

16:11(A:vii, S:v)

And ADONAI (יהוה) spoke to Moshe, saying:

Telunnot - Murmurings

16:12 I have heard the telunnot of the benai Yisrael:

Speak to them, saying:

At even you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be filled with lechem; and you shall know that ANI ADONAI (יהוה) your Elohim.

16:13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

16:14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, Hinei, upon the face of the midbar there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

16:15 And when the benai Yisrael saw it, they said one to another, It is Mana: for they wist not what it was.

And Moshe said to them:

This [is] lechem which ADONAI (יהוה) has given you to eat.

16:16 This [is] the thing which ADONAI (יהוה) has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, [according to] the number of your persons; take you every man for [them] which [are] in his tents.

16:17 And the benai Yisrael did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

16:18 And when they measured [it] with an omer, he who gathered much no excess, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

16:19 And Moshe said:

Let no man leave of it till the morning.

Middot U'Mitzvot (Character and Deeds)

16:20 Notwithstanding they did not heed Moshe. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moshe was wroth with them.

16:21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.

16:22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much lechem, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moshe.

16:23 Then he said to them,

"This is what ADONAI (יהוה) has said: 'Shabaton (day of rest) Ha Kodesh Shabat to ADONAI (יהוה). Bake  what you will bake today, and boil  what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.' "

16:24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moshe bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

Three Shabat meals shalosh Se'udot

Vayomer Moshe ichluhu hayom ki-shabat hayom lAdonai hayom lo timtza'uhu basadeh.

And Moshe said: Eat that today; for today is a Shabat to ADONAI (יהוה): today you shall not find it in the field.

16:26 Sheshet yamim you shall gather it; but on yom hashevi'i, which is the Shabat, in it there shall be none.

16:27 And it came to pass, that  there went out [some of the people on yom hashevi'i for to gather, and they found none.

Vayomer ADONAI (יהוה) el-Moshe; ad-'anah me'antem, lishmor mitzvtai vetorotai.

And ADONAI (יהוה) said to Moshe: How long refuse you to keep My mitzvah and My Torah?

16:29 See, for that ADONAI (יהוה) has given you the Shabat, therefore he gives you on the sixth day lechem of two days; abide you every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on yom hashevi'i.

16:30 (S:vi) So the people rested on yom hashevi'i.

16:31 And the Beit Yisrael called the name thereof Mana: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

16:32 And Moshe said:

This is the thing which ADONAI (יהוה) commands, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see lechem wherewith I have fed you in the midbar, when I brought you forth from the land of Mitzrayim.

16:33 And Moshe said to Aharon:

Take a pot, and put an omer full of mana therein, and lay it up before ADONAI (יהוה), to be kept for your generations.

16:34 As ADONAI (יהוה) commanded Moshe, so Aharon laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

16:35 And the benai Yisrael did eat mana forty years, until they came to the land inhabited; they did eat mana, until they came to the borders of the land of Kenaan.

16:36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

Lesson to learn:

Yochanan 6:43 YEHOSHUA therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.

1Co 10:10 Neither murmur you, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

Do not murmur, grumbled

Do not be gluttony, greedy, -
Beware the danger of being hoarded wealth sickens the soul. It causes us to cling to material things.
We no longer need to rely on Hashem because we can rely upon our savings and investments.

Three Shabat meals :

It is proper to eat three meals with bread on Shabat: the Friday night meal, the Shabat midday meal, and one meal toward the end of the day just prior to sunset, called Seudah Shelishit (סעודה שלישית‎ ), or the Third Meal  eat less and with bread because we need food that requires Birkat ha-Mazon. It often consisting of foods such as salads and gefilte fish in Ashkenazi custom and tuna, harissa, and fruits in Mizrachi and Sephardi customs.. The reason is that the verse from which the [obligation of] three meals is derived deals with bread. As it is written: "This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat" (Shemot 16:15). And regarding Birkat ha-Mazon, bread is mentioned
