David's "Psalm of Praise" is an acrostic, each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. However, in the traditional (Masoretic) Hebrew text, the letter "nun," corresponding to our "n," is missing between verses 13 and 14. The ancient Greek, Syriac, and Latin versions add the following:

"YHWH is faithful in all His words, and gracious in all His works."

In the twentieth century this same line—the missing "nun" line—was also found in Hebrew in the Dead Sea Scrolls. This Psalms 145 is recited as part of our tefillah service three times each day, twice during Shaharit and Mincha. This Tehillim was chosen because no other psalms possesesses both of its virtues:

·       The initials of the psalm’s respective verses follow the order of the alef-bet

·       16 verse contains the inspiring and the reassuring testimony of YAH’S mercy.

The Midrash records that the Psalmist and Sages used the alef-bet formula in chapters that they wanted people to follow more easily or to memorize.
