The setting of this Psalm is a courtroom with Elohim Himself the Judge, Yisrael the defendant, and heaven and earth the witnesses.
50:1 EL Elohim (אלהים), YEHOVAH (יהוה), shall speak, and He shall the earth from the rising of the sun to the going down.
50:2 Out of Tzyon, the perfection of beauty, Elohim (אלהים) shines forth.
50:3 Eloheinu comes, and shall not keep silence:
A fire shall consumes before Him, and it shall be very stormy all around Him.
50:4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people.
50:5 'Gather My chasidim together unto Me; those that have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice'.
50:6 And the heavens shall declare His tzedakah: for Elohim (אלהים) [is] judge himself. Selah.
The Sin of Ritualism (50:7-15)
50:7 'Hear, O My people, and I will speak; O Yisrael, and I will testify against thee: Ani Elohim (אלהים), [even] Eloheicha.
50:8 I will not reprove you for your sacrifices or your olot, [to have been] continually before Me.
50:9 I will take no bullock out of your house, [nor] he-goats out of your folds.
50:10 For every beast of the forest [is] Mine, [and] the cattle upon a Thousand hills.
50:11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field [are] Mine.
50:12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you: for the world [is] Mine, and the fulness thereof.
50:13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
50:14 Offer unto Elohim (אלהים) thanksgiving; and pay your vows l'Elyon (עליון):
50:15 And call upon Me in the Yom Tzarah (trouble): I will deliver you, and you shalt glorify Me.
But to the Wicked... (50:16-21)
50:16 But unto the wicked,
Elohim (אלהים) saith:
"What have you to do to declare My statutes, or [that] Thou
shouldest take My covenant in your mouth?
50:17 Seeing you hate instruction, and cast My words behind you.
50:18 When you sawest a thief, then you consented with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
50:19 You let loose your mouth to evil, and your tongue frameth deceit.
50:20 You sit [and] speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.
50:21 These [things] have you done, and I kept silence; you Thought that I was altogether [such an one] as your self: [but] I will reprove you, and set [them] in order before your eyes.
Warning and Promise (50:22, 23)
50:22 Now consider this, ye that forget Eloah (אלוהּ), lest I tear [you] in pieces, and [there be] none to deliver.
50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me: and to him that ordereth [his] conversation [aright] will I shew the salvation of Elohim (אלהים)'.
