אֶתְרֹג In Hebrew, the citron is transliterately known as the
etrog meaning love and attraction in Talmudical Aramic, The Arabic name for the fruit itranj اترنج is
also cognate with the Hebrew; the itranj is mentioned favorably in the
Hadith. It is one of the Four Species used during the holiday of Sukkot each
fall. The role of the citron in that holiday was portrayed in the Israeli movie
Ushpizin. Citrons that have been bred with lemon (in order to increase output
per tree and make the tree less fragile) are not kosher for use as part of the
Four Species. An etrog that still has a pitam at its tip (a pitam
is composite of a style called in Hebrew "dad", and the stigma which
is called shoshanta, usually falling off during the growing process) is
considered especially valuable. However, those varieties that shed off their
Pitam during growth just like the other citrus species, are also kosher. Even
when the stigma break off post harvest, it could still be considered kosher as
long as part of the style is remained attached. Etrog has medical healing
property. See the video presentation website Estrog World.com
The citron tree blooms nearly all year, but mostly in spring and the
spring blooms produce the major part of the crop. The fruit is dark-green when
young, takes 3 months to turn yellow. The citron (Citrus medica)
is a species of citrus fruit. The citron is slow growing about 2-4 year and
mostly grown near the Mediterranean, parts of India, and in Central and South
America.
Lulav - The leaves--two-fold and
spear-headed--are linked to a solid central stem. Near the pointed tip of the
Lulav, the spine splits into two double-leaves called Te-yomes, twins. The
points of the Te-yomes should not be split. The backs of the leaves should be
light green, the fronts white.
Shabbat is the most important feast of
all the biblical feast. It type of Messianic eternal rest
Mikra Kodesh - Calling, Holy convocation,
calling that draws down the Holiness (Set apartness)
Rosh Hodesh - New Moon, the first day of each month was a
day of rest, no work, buying or selling special sacrifice and the blowing of
silver trumpet. It is miniture of feast of trumpet. (Bamidbar 28:11-15;
Tehillim 81:3)
