The Understanding of Sabbath

Dear Reader

Thanks for your interest in this topic. I am Messianic Believer, I believe in Messiah Yeshua and have received Him as my personal Saviour.

Before you begin I would to remind you that Sabbath are beneficial to those who are in YAHWEH's Kingdom. YAHWEH is the Holy one of Israel no sin can come in His presence. You must be willing to be covered by the Blood of Messiah Yeshua then only can you have access to Yahweh to enjoy His fellowship and His Blessing. For those who are not yet in Yahweh's Kingdom may I suggest you to click on this banner below that will show you how restore you back to God in fellowship.

Why does Christian does not observe the Sabbath?

"It is a sign between Me and the sons of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, but on the seventh day He ceased from labor, and was refreshed."" (Exodus 31:17 NNAS)

The keeping of Sabbath was a "sign" between God and the nation of Israel (cf. Ex. 31:12-17) and is therefore a Jewish observance. No work was to be done on the Seventh day, not even the building of the tabernacle. Disobedience was punishable by death. Indeed it is the only commandment of the Decalogue not reaffirmed in the New Testament. Because of the resurrection, the Christian day of worship is the Lord's Day (Sunday, the first day of the week), rather than the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday, the seventh day of the week).

Other Christian views:

Some Christian view that although we do not observe the Sabbath the concept of spending the Time with the Lord still apply such as daily reading scripture, prayer and fellowship with saint. It is a daily event, which does not have a fix day

Sabbath as forcefulness, scary thing, Sabbath is only for the Jews, Sabbath no longer necessary, Sabbath has been abolished, Christian need not comply, and Sabbath has been replaced by Lord's supper.

One of the questions I ask: "I am curious to know how do Jews spend their time during Sabbath since you are commanded not to do any work? "

Answer:

The Sabbath can be a day for spending time with the family, spending time in Yahweh's word, spending time worshiping and praising Yahweh, getting rest and meeting with brothers and sisters in Yahweh.

My personal view:

I certainly believe begin on Friday at twilight until Saturday at twilight and "Sunday" is Yom Rishon just immediately after Shabbat. The Key to the understanding of Shabbat and obedience to his Mitzvot which is that calling to enter into His Shabbat is that

" Today if You will hear His voice Harden not your hearts.

and

to those who believe shall enter in His rest."

In the New Covenant Messiah Yeshua taught in these following scripture with regards to truth about rest:(Scripture quoted in Messianic Authorised Version MAV)

In the days of Wilderness

Ivr 3:7-19 Wherefore (as the RUACH HAKODESH saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with
that generation, and said, They do alway err in [their] heart; and they have not known my ways. So I
sware in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest.) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil
heart of unbelief, in departing from the living ELOHIM
. But exhort one another daily, while it is called
today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of
MESSIAH, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, Today if ye
will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
For some, when they had heard, did
provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moshe. But with whom was he grieved forty years?
[was it] not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that
they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in
because of unbelief. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left [us] of entering into his rest, any of you
should seem to come short of it.

The Goodnews and Warning to the unbelief with regards to Shabbat Shalom Ivrim 2-11

For unto us was the good news preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them,
not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it]. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he
said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from
the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh [day] on this wise, And ELOHIM
did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this [place] again, If they shall enter into my rest.
Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached
entered not in because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a
time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Yehoshua had given them
rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a Shabbat to the
people of ELOHIM. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as ELOHIM
[did] from his.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of
unbelief.

I view Sabbath should be an event to be appreciated and to be enjoyed. We need to learn to let go the things of the world fix our mind of Yahweh, not to be slave to things of the world and set aside time for the Lord. It should be done out of your willingness heart without hypocrisy.

Some of the highlights of those who have Sabbath Experience

  1. It is such a blessing to hear Brethren share their Sabbath experiences. I have been a Sabbath observer for 7-8 months and I must confess that I have come to the point where I honestly find rest in the Sabbath. Not just physical but mental as well. I try my best to take no concerns of this carnal world with me into the Sabbath. My focus is on praise to Yahweh and fellowship with family and brethren, but I also realize that it is 'lawful to do good on the Sabbath'.
  2. I have been Sabbath keeping for 4 months. I have two small children, at first they didn't understand why they couldn't do certain things. I read the creation account in Genesis to them and emphasized that Yahweh rested on the seventh day and told them that's what we were going to do. They completely understood, if only it was that easy to explain to adults.
  3. But if they can first come to the understanding that the Seventh Day Sabbath was:

Messiah Yeshua said

"Yeshua said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." (Mark 2:27-28 NNAS)
