Exhortation to Timotheos 1:6- 2:13

1:1 Paulos, shliach Yehoshua (יהושע) HaMashiach by the birtzon (will of) Elohim, according to the promise of life which is in Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע),

1:2 To Timotheos, [my] dearly beloved son:

"Chesed (grace), Rachamim(mercy), and Shalom (peace), from Elohim Avinu and Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע) Adoneinu."

Stir up the gift of Elohim

1:3 I thank Elohim, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my tefillot night and day;

1:4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with simcha;

1:5 When I call to remembrance the sincere true faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunike; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of Elohim, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

1:7 For Elohim hath not given us the spirit of fear (timidity cowardice); but of power, and of love, and of self discipline (sophronismos).

1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the eidut Adoneinu, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the goodnews according to the power of Elohim;

1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an set apart calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and Chesed, which was given us in Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע) before Yamim HaOlam,

1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Moshia Yehoshua (יהושע) Mashiach, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the goodnews:

1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a Proclaimer, and a Shliach, and a Rabbi to the graft in ones.

1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day.

1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and ahav which is in Mashiach Yehoshua (יהושע). 2 Tim 2:2

1:14 That good thing which was committed to thee keep by Ruach HaKodesh which dwells in us.

1:15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phugellos and Hermogenes.

1:16 Adonay grant Rachamim to the household of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

1:17 But, when he was in Rhome, he sought me out very diligently, and found [me].

1:18 Adonay grant to him that he may find rachamim from Adonay in that day: and you know very well how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesos.

Second Timotheos was written from prison (traditionally the Mamertime Prison is the gloomy dungeons of the Mamertine Prison, the oldest of its kind, for over 25 centuries the enemies of Rhome were plunged, tortured and left to die.) As a Roman citizen Paulos could not be thrown to the lions or impaled, but "merited" execution with a sword by decpitation. Since he was killed under Nero.

Lois - meaning more desirable, better. The maternal grandmother of Timothy. She is commended by Paulos for her faith (2Ti_1:5).

Eunike - Eunice Happily conquering, the mother of Timothy, a believing Jewess, but married to a Greek (Act_16:1). She trained her son from his childhood in the knowledge of the Scriptures (2Ti_3:15). She was distinguished by her “unfeigned faith.”

Phugellos - Phygellus Fugitive, a Messianic Believer of Asia, who “turned away” from Paulos during his second imprisonment at Rhome (2Ti_1:15). Nothing more is known of him.

Onesiphorus meaning Bringing profit, an Ephesian believer who showed great kindness to Paulos at Rhome. He served him in many things, and had oft refreshed him. Paulos expresses a warm interest in him and his household (2Ti_1:16-18; 2Ti_4:19).
