11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of His Talmidim said to him, Adon, teach us to pray, as Yochanan also taught His Talmidim.

11:2 So He said to them, "When you pray, say:

Our Father who is in Heaven,

Avinu, yitkadash shmecha
Sanctified be Your Name.
Tavo malchutecha
Your Kingdom come.

Your will be done, as in shamayim, so in earth.

Ye'aseh r'tzonecha

ba'aretz ka'asher na'asah vashamayim

Es lechem chukeinu ten lanu yom yom'
Give us day by day our daily lechem.

`u-s'lach lanu al chatta'einu'
And forgive us our sins;

`Ki gam anachnu solechim lekhol hachote'im lanu'
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.

`v'al tevi'einu lidei nissayon'
And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

11:5 And he said to them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

11:6 for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him';

11:7 and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything'?

11:8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.

11:9 "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

11:10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

11:11 If a son asks for lechem from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish?

11:12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Ruach HaKodesh to those who ask Him!"

11:14 And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the multitudes marveled.

11:15 But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Baal-zibbul Sar ha Shedim (chief of the devils)."

11:16 Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.

11:17  But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls.

11:18  If hasatan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say: "by Baal-zibbul I cast out shedim (demons)..

11:19 And if I by Baal-zibbul cast out Shedim, by whom do your sons cast [them] out? therefore shall they be your judges.

11:20 But if I with the finger of Elohim cast out devils, no doubt the Malkut Elohim is come upon you.

11:21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in shalom.

11:22 "But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.

11:23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathers not with me scatters.

11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he said, I will return to my house whence I came out.

11:25 And when he comes, he finds [it] swept and garnished.

11:26 Then goes he, and takes [to him] seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first.

11:27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said to him, Blessed [is] the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou have sucked.

11:28 But he said, Yes rather, blessed [are] they that hear the word of Elohim, and keep it.

11:29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Yonah ha Navi.

11:30 For as Yonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of Man be to this generation.

11:31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Shlomo; and, hinnei, a greater than Shlomo [is] here.

11:32 The men of Nineveh shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the Proclaiming of Yonah; and, behold, a greater than Yonah [is] here.

11:33 No man, when he has lighted a candle, puts [it] in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when your eye is single, your whole body also is full of light; but when [your eye] is evil, your body also [is] full of darkness.

11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

11:36 If your whole body therefore [be] full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

11:37 And as he spoke, a certain Prush besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

11:38 And when the Prush saw [it], he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

11:39 And Adonay said to him, Now do you Prushim make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

11:40 [You] fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

11:41 But rather give alms of such things as you have; and, hinnei, all things are clean to you.

11:42 But woe to you, Prushim! for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of Elohim: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

11:43 Woe to you, Prushim! for you love the uppermost seats in the Shul, and greetings in the markets.

11:44 Woe to you, Sofrim (Torah-teachers) and Prushim, hypocrites! for you are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over [them] are not aware [of them].

11:45  Then one of the Ba'alei Torah answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, by saying these things You reproach us also."

11:46 And he said,

Woe to you also, [you] Ba'alei Torah! for you lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and you yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.

11:47 Woe to you! for you build the keverim (tombs) of the Neviim, and your fathers killed them.

11:48 Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and you build their keverim (tombs).

11:49 Therefore also said the wisdom of Elohim, I will send them Neviim and Shlichim, and [some] of them they shall slay and persecute:

11:50 That the blood of all the Neviim, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

11:51 From the blood of Hevel to the blood of Zekaryahu, which perished between the altar and Beit HaMikdash:

Amein I say to you:

It shall be required of this generation.

11:52 Woe to you, Ba'alei Torah! for you have taken away the key of knowledge: you entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in you hindered.

11:53 And as he said these things to them, the Sofrim (Torah-teachers) and the Prushim began to urge [him] vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:

11:54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

Our Father, who is in heaven,
Sanctified be Your Name;
May Your Kingdom be fulfilled;
May Your will be realised -
Just as it is in heaven,
So also upon the earth.

Our bread, which is from the earth,
Give us day by day.
And forgive us our sins,
Just as we should forgive our debtors.
And do not bring us to trial,
Rather deliver us from evil.
