The Second Census

26:1 (25:19)

And it came to pass after the plague (המגפה), that ADONAI (יהוה) spoke to Moshe and to ElAzar Ben Aharon the Kohen, saying,

26:2 Take the sum of all the congregation of benai Yisrael, from twenty years old and upward, throughout their Avot' Bayit, all that are able to go to war in Yisrael.

26:3 And Moshe and El Azar (אלעזר) the Kohen spoke with them in the plains of Mo'av by Yarden [near] Yericho, saying,

26:4 (ii) [Take the census of the people], from twenty years old and upward; as ADONAI (יהוה) commanded Moshe and benai Yisrael, which went forth out of Eretz Mitzrayim.

26:5 Reuven was the firstborn of Yisrael. Benai Reuven were: of Hanoch, Mishpakhat haHanochites; of Pallu, Mishpakhat haPallu'i;

26:6 Of Chetzron, Mishpakhat of the Chetzronites: of Karmi, Mishpakhat of the Karmites.

26:7 These [are] the mishpekhot haReuveni: and they that were numbered of them were forty and three thousand and seven hundred and thirty.

26:8 And benai Pallu; Eliav.

26:9 And benai Eliav; Nemuel, and Datan, and Aviram. This [is that] Datan and Aviram, [which were] famous in the congregation, who strove against Moshe and against Aharon in the company of Korah, when they strove against ADONAI (יהוה):

26:10 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.

26:11 Nevertheless Benai Korah died not.

26:12 Benai Shimon after their mishpekhot: of Nemuel, Mishpakhat haNemueli: of Yamin, Mishpakhat haYamini: of Yachin, Mishpakhat haYachini:

26:13 Of Zerah, Mishpakhat haZarehi: of Shaul, Mishpakhat haShauli.

26:14 These [are] the mishpekhot haShimoni, twenty-two thousand two hundred - 22,200.

26:15 Benai Gad after their mishpekhot: of Tzefon, Mishpakhat haTzefoni: of Haggi, Mishpakhat haHaggi: of Shuni, Mishpakhat haShuni:

26:16 Of Ozni, Mishpakhat haOzni: of Eri, Mishpakhat haEri:

26:17 Of Arod, Mishpakhat haArodi: of Areli, Mishpakhat haAreli.

26:18 These [are] the mishpekhot of Benai Gad according to those that were numbered of them, forty thousand five hundred - 40,500.

26:19 benai Yehudah [were] Er and Onan: and Er and Onan died in the land of Kenaan.

26:20 And Benai Yehudah after their mishpekhot were; of Shelah, Mishpakhat haShelani: of Pharetz, Mishpakhat haPharetzi: of Zerah, Mishpakhat haZarehi.

26:21 And Benai Pharetz were; of Hetzron, Mishpakhat haHetzeroni: of Hamul, Mishpakhat heHamuli.

26:22 These [are] the mishpekhot of Yehudah according to those that were numbered of them, seventy-six thousand five hundred - 76,500.

26:23 [Of] benai Yissakhar after their mishpekhot: [of] Tola, Mishpakhat haTola'i: of Puvah, Mishpakhat haPuni:

26:24 Of Yashuv, Mishpakhat haYashuvi: of Shimron, Mishpakhat haShimroni.

26:25 These [are] the mishpekhot of Yissakhar according to those that were numbered of them, sixty-four thousand three hundred - 64,300.

26:26 [Of] Benai Zevulun after their mishpekhot: of Sered, Mishpakhat haSaredi: of Elon, Mishpakhat haElonites: of Yahle'el, Mishpakhat haYahle'eli.

26:27 These [are] the mishpekhot haZevuloni according to those that were numbered of them, sixty thousand five hundred - 60,500.

26:28 Benai Yosef after their mishpekhot were Menasheh and Efrayim.

26:29 Of benai Menasheh: of Machir, Mishpakhat haMachiri: and Machir fathered Gil'ad: of Gil'ad [come] Mishpakhat haGile'adi.

26:30 These [are] benai Gil'ad: of I'ezer, Mishpakhat haI'ezeri: of Helek, Mishpakhat haHeleki:

26:31 And [of] Asriel, Mishpakhat haAsri'elis: and [of] Shechem, Mishpakhat haShechemi:

26:32 And [of] Shemida, Mishpakhat haShemida'i: and [of] Hefer, Mishpakhat haHeferi.

26:33 And Tzelofehad Ben Hefer had no sons, but daughters: and shem banot Tzelofehad [were] Mahlah, and No'ah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirtzah.

26:34 These [are] the mishpekhot of Menasheh, and those that were numbered of them, fifty and two thousand and seven hundred.

26:35 These [are] benai Efrayim after their mishpekhot: of Shutelah, Mishpakhat haShutalehi: of Becher, Mishpakhat haBacheri: of Tahan, Mishpakhat haTachani.

26:36 And these [are] benai Shutelah: of Eran, Mishpakhat haErani.

26:37 These [are] the mishpekhot of benai Efrayim according to those that were numbered of them, thirty and two thousand and five hundred. These [are] benai Yosef after their mishpekhot.

26:38 Benai BenYamin after their mishpekhot: of Bela, Mishpakhat haBale'i: of Ashbel, Mishpakhat haAshbeli: of Ahiram, Mishpakhat haAhirami:

26:39 Of Shefufam, Mishpakhat haShefufami: of Hufam, Mishpakhat haHufami.

26:40 And benai Bela were Ard and Naaman: [of Ard], Mishpakhat haAredi: [and] of Naaman, Mishpakhat haNa'ami.

26:41 These [are] Benai BenYamin after their mishpekhot: and they that were numbered of them [were] forty and five thousand and six hundred.

26:42 These [are] benai Dan after their mishpekhot: of Shuham, Mishpakhat haShuhami. These [are] the mishpekhot of Dan after their mishpekhot.

26:43 All the mishpekhot haShuhami, according to those that were numbered of them, [were] threescore and four thousand and four hundred.

26:44 [Of] Benai Asher after their mishpekhot: of Yimnah, Mishpakhat haYimnah: of Yishvi, Mishpakhat haYishvi: of Beriah, Mishpakhat haBeri'i.

26:45 Of benai Beriah: of Hever, Mishpakhat haHevri: of Malchiel, Mishpakhat haMalki'eli.

26:46 And the name of bat Asher [was] Sarah.

26:47 These [are] the mishpekhot of benai Asher according to those that were numbered of them; [who were] fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

26:48 [Of] benai Naftali after their mishpekhot: of Yachtze'el, Mishpakhat haYachtze'eli: of Guni, Mishpakhat haGuni:

26:49 Of Yezer, Mishpakhat haYitzeri: of Shillem, Mishpakhat haShillemi.

26:50 These [are] the mishpekhot of Naftali according to their mishpekhot: and they that were numbered of them [were] forty and five thousand and four hundred.

26:51 These [were] the numbered of benai Yisrael, six hundred thousand and a thousand seven hundred and thirty.

26:52 (iii)

And ADONAI (יהוה) spoke toMosheh, saying:

26:53 to these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names.

26:54 To many you shall give the more inheritance, and to few you shall give the less inheritance: to every one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him.

26:55 Nevertheless the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their Avot they shall inherit.

26:56 According to the lot shall the possession thereof be divided between many and few.

26:57 And these [are] they that were numbered haLevi'im after their mishpekhot: of Gershon, Mishpakhat haGereshuni: of Kohat, Mishpakhat haKehati: of Merari, Mishpakhat haMerari.

26:58 These [are] the mishpekhot haLevi'im: Mishpakhat haLiveni, Mishpakhat haHevroni, Mishpakhat HaMachli, Mishpakhat HaMushi, Mishpakhat haKoratites. And Kohat fathered Amram.

26:59 And the name of Amram's wife [was] Yocheved Bat Levi, whom [her mother] bare to Levy in Mitzrayim: and she bare to Amram Aharon and Moshe, and Miryam their sister.

26:60 And to Aharon was born Nadav, and Avihu, El Azar (אלעזר), and Itamar.

26:61 And Nadav and Avihu died, when they offered strange fire before ADONAI (יהוה).

26:62 And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among benai Yisrael, because there was no inheritance given them among Benai Yisrael.

26:63 These [are] they that were numbered by Moshe and El Azar (אלעזר) haKohen, who numbered benai Yisrael in the plains of Mo'av by Yarden [near] Yericho.

26:64 But among these there was not a man of them whom Moshe and Aharon haKohen numbered, when they numbered benai Yisrael Bamidar Sinay.

26:65 For ADONAI (יהוה) had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Kalev Ben Yefuneh, and Yehoshua Ben Nun.
