23:1 And the melekh sent, and they gathered unto him all the Zekenim of Yehudah and of Yerushalayim.

23:2 And the melekh went up into the Beit YHWH (יהוה), and all the men of Yehudah and all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim with him, and ha Kohenim, and the Neviim, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the Divrei Sefer haBrit which was found in the Beit YHWH (יהוה).

23:3 And the melekh stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before YHWH (יהוה), to walk after YHWH (יהוה), and to keep his mitzvot and his edot (testimonies) and his chukkot with all [their] heart and all [their] soul, to perform the Divrei haBrit that were written in this Sefer. And all the people stood to the covenant.

23:4 And the melekh commanded Chilkiyahu Kohen haGadol, and ha Kohenim of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the Heikhal YHWH (יהוה) all the vessels that were made for ba'al, and for the grove, and for all the Tzava (host) ha Shamayim: and he burned them without Yerushalayim in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beit'el.

23:5 And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the Melkhei Yehudah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Yehudah, and in the places round about Yerushalayim; them also that burned incense unto ba'al, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the Tzava (host) ha Shamayim.

23:6 And he brought out the grove from the Beit YHWH (יהוה), without Yerushalayim, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped [it] small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.

23:7 And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that [were] by the Beit YHWH (יהוה), where the women wove hangings for the grove.

23:8 And he brought all ha Kohenim out of the cities of Yehudah, and defiled the high places where ha Kohenim had burned incense, from Geva to Be'er-Sheva, and brake down the high places of the gates that [were] in the entering in of the gate of Yehoshua the governor of the city, which [were] on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.

23:9 Nevertheless ha Kohenim of the high places came not up to the altar of YHWH (יהוה) in Yerushalayim, but they did eat of the Matzah among their brethren.

23:10 And he defiled Tophet, which [is] in the valley of the Benai Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molekh.

23:11 And he took away the horses that the Melkhei Yehudah had given to the sun, at the entering in of the Beit YHWH (יהוה), by the chamber of Natan-melekh the chamberlain, which [was] in the suburbs, and burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

23:12 And the mizbechot that [were] on the top of the upper chamber of Achaz, which the Melkhei Yehudah had made, and the mizbechot which Menasheh had made in the two courts of the Beit YHWH (יהוה), did the melekh beat down, and brake [them] down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.

23:13 And the high places that [were] before Yerushalayim, which [were] on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Shlomo the melekh Yisra'el had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Tzidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moavites, and for Milkom the abomination of the Benai Ammon, did the melekh defile.

23:14 And he brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men.

23:15 Moreover the altar that [was] at Beit'el, [and] the high place which Yarov`am Ben Nevat, who made Yisra'el to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, [and] stamped [it] small to powder, and burned the grove.

23:16 And as Yoshiyah turned himself, he spied the keverim that [were] there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the keverim, and burned [them] upon the altar, and polluted it, according to the Dvar YHWH (יהוה) which the man of Elohim (אלהים) proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.

23:17 Then he said, What title [is] that that I see? And the men of the city told him, [It is] the kever (tomb) of the man of Elohim (אלהים), which came from Yehudah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beit'el.

23:18 And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of ha Navi that came out of Shomron.

23:19 And all the houses also of the high places that [were] in the cities of Shomron, which the Melkhei Yisra'el had made to provoke [YHWH (יהוה)] to anger, Yoshiyah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beit'el.

23:20 And he slew all ha Kohenim of the high places that [were] there upon the mizbechot, and burned men's bones upon them, and returned to Yerushalayim.

23:21 And the melekh commanded all the people, saying, Keep the Pesach unto YHWH (יהוה) your Elohim (אלהים), as [it is] written in the Sefer ha Brit ha Zeh.

23:22 Surely there was not holden such a Pesach from the days of the judges that judged Yisra'el, nor in all the days of the Melkhei Yisra'el, nor of the Melkhei Yehudah;

23:23 But in the eighteenth year of melekh Yoshiyah, [wherein] this Pesach was holden to YHWH (יהוה) in Yerushalayim.

23:24 Moreover the [workers with] familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Yehudah and in Yerushalayim, did Yoshiyah put away, that he might perform the words of the Torah which were written in the Sefer that Chilkiyahu ha Kohen found in the Beit YHWH (יהוה).

23:25 And like unto him was there no melekh before him, that turned to YHWH (יהוה) with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Torah of Mosheh; neither after him arose there [any] like him.

23:26 Notwithstanding YHWH (יהוה) turned not from the fierceness of His great wrath, wherewith His anger was kindled against Yehudah, because of all the provocations that Menasheh had provoked him withal.

23:27 And YHWH (יהוה) said, I will remove Yehudah also out of my sight, as I have removed Yisra'el, and will cast off this city Yerushalayim which I have chosen, and the Beit which I said, My name shall be there.

23:28 Now the rest of the acts of Yoshiyah, and all that he did, [are] they not written in the sefer Divrei ha Yamin (chronicles) of the Melkhei Yehudah?

23:29 In his days Paroh Nekhoh melekh Mitzrayim went up against the melekh Ashur to the river Euphrates: and melekh Yoshiyah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

23:30 And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Yerushalayim, and buried him in his own kever (tomb). And the people of the land took Yehoachaz Ben Yoshiyah, and anointed him, and made him melekh in his father's stead.

23:31 Yehoachaz [was] twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Yerushalayim. And his mother's name [was] Hamutal Bat Yeremyah of Livnah.

23:32 And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of YHWH (יהוה), according to all that his avot had done.

23:33 And Paroh Nekhoh put him in bands at Rivlah in the land of Chamat, that he might not reign in Yerushalayim; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

23:34 And Paroh Nekhoh made Elyakim Ben Yoshiyah melekh in the room of Yoshiyah his father, and turned his name to Yehoyakim, and took Yehoachaz away: and he came to Mitzrayim, and died there.

23:35 And Yehoyakim gave the silver and the gold to Paroh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the mitzvah of Paroh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give [it] unto Paroh Nekhoh.

23:36 Yehoyakim [was] twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Yerushalayim. And his mother's name [was] Zevudah Bat Pedayah of Rumah.

23:37 And he did [that which was] evil in the sight of YHWH (יהוה), according to all that his avot had done.
