Hallei Psalms

WAVING theBikkurim (First fruits)

The day after the Pesach Seder is called Waving Day,

it is the first day of Counting the Omer (tithe).

On that day a lamb is waved, with challah made from the first omer of barley - the first grain crop to ripen.

Today is the fiftieth day of Counting the Omer.

On this day the first omers of wheat - the last grain crop to ripen - are baked into Matzah Lechem and

brought to wave before ADONAI.

Each loaf is made with an omer of fine wheat flour, about a half-gallon.
Each is about three feet long and nine inches wide.

Leader: Did you start counting the weeks after sundown at the end of Pesach High Sabbath?
    Congregation: Yes.
Leader: Is this the day after seven complete Shabbatot?
    Congregation: Yes.
Leader: You have reached the fiftieth day of counting the omer?
    Congregation: Yes, Yom Ha Shavu'ot is fully come;

we may wave the omers.

To the singing of Hallel Tehillim 113,

the Challah loaves are waved from

South anigray05_next.gif North over Yerushalayim - ("Ye His servants") - vs 1

East anigray05_next.gif West ("from dawn to sunset") - vs 3

Upward anigray05_up.gif ( point towards "high in heaven") -vs 6
