4:1 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean crossed over Yarden, that ADONAI (יהוה) spake unto Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע), saying,
4:2 Take you Shnei Asar men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,
4:3 And command ye them, saying:
Take you hence out of the midst of Yarden, out of the place where the Kohenim' feet stood firm, Shnei Asar stones, and ye shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.
4:4 Then Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) called the Shnei Asar men, whom he had prepared of Benai Yisrael, out of every tribe a man:
4:5 And Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) said unto them, Pass over before the ARON of ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheichem into the midst of Yarden, and take ye up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of Benai Yisrael:
4:6 That this may be a sign among you, [that] when your children ask [their fathers] in time to come, saying, What [mean] ye by these stones?
4:7 Then ye shall answer them:
That the mayim of Yarden were cut off before ha ARON BRIT ADONAI (יהוה); when it crossed over Yarden, the mayim of Yarden were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto Benai Yisrael for ever.
4:8 And Benai Yisrael did so as Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) commanded, and took up Shnei Asar stones out of the midst of Yarden, as ADONAI (יהוה) spake unto Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע), according to the number of the tribes of Benai Yisrael, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
4:9 And Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) set up Shnei Asar stones in the midst of Yarden, in the place where the feet of the Kohenim which bare ha ARON BRIT stood: and they are there unto this day.
4:10 For the Kohenim which bare the ARON stood in the midst of Yarden, until every thing was finished that ADONAI (יהוה) commanded Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) to speak unto the people, according to all that Mosheh commanded Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע): and the people hasted and crossed over.
4:11 And it came to pass, when all the people were clean crossed over, that the ARON of ADONAI (יהוה) crossed over, and the Kohenim, in the presence of the people.
4:12 And Benai Reuven, and Benai Gad, and half the tribe of Menasheh, crossed over armed before Benai Yisrael, as Mosheh spake unto them:
4:13 About forty thousand prepared for war crossed over before ADONAI (יהוה) unto battle, to the plains of Yericho (יריחה).
The process in entering Promised Eretz (14-17)
4:14 On that day ADONAI (יהוה) magnified Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) in the sight of all Yisrael; and they feared him, as they feared Mosheh, all the days of his life.
4:15 AndADONAIH (יהוה) spake unto Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע), saying,
4:16 Command the Kohenim that bear the ARON of the testimony, that they come up out of Yarden.
4:17 Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) therefore commanded the Kohenim, saying, Come ye up out of Yarden.
4:18 And it came to pass, when the Kohenim that bare ha ARON BRIT ADONAI (יהוה) were come up out of the midst of Yarden, [and] the soles of the Kohenim' feet were lifted up unto the dry Eretz, that the mayim of Yarden returned unto their place, and flowed over all his banks, as [they did] before.
4:19 And the people came up out of Yarden on the tenth [day] of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Yericho (יריחה).
4:20 And those Shnei Asar (12) avanim (stones), which they took out of Yarden, did Yehoshua (יהושׁוּע) pitch in Gilgal.
4:21 And he spake unto Benai Yisrael, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What [mean] these stones?
4:22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Yisrael came over this Yarden on dry land.
4:23 For ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheichem dried up the mayim of Yarden from before you, until ye were crossed over, as ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheichem did to the Yam Suf, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
4:24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of ADONAI (יהוה), that it [is] mighty: that ye might fear ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheichem forever.
