Yericho falls

6:1 Now Yericho was tightly shut up because of Benai Yisrael: none went out, and none came in.

6:2 And ADONAI (יהוה) said to Yehoshua:

See, I have given into thine hand Yericho, and the melekh thereof, [and] the gibborei hechayil (mightly men of valour).

6:3 And you shall march around the city, all [ye] anshei hamilchamah (men of war), [and] go round about the city once. Thus shall you do sheshet yamim (six days).

6:4 And seven kohenim shall bear before the ark shivah (seven) shoferot ha Yovelim (horns): and the Yom ha Shevi'i (seventh day) you shall march around the city sheva (7) times , and ha kohenim shall blow with the shoferot.

6:5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long [blast] with the keren (ram) ha yovel, [and] when you shema the sound of the Shofar, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

6:6 And Yehoshua Ben Nun called ha kohenim, and said to them, Take up the Aron ha Brit (ark of the covenant), and let seven kohenim bear shivah (seven) shoferot ha Yovelim (horns) before the ark of ADONAI (יהוה).

6:7 And he said to the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of ADONAI (יהוה).

6:8 And it came to pass, when Yehoshua had spoken to the people, that the seven kohenim bearing the shivah (seven) shoferot ha Yovelim (horns) passed on before ADONAI (יהוה), and blew with the shoferot: and the Aron ha Brit (ark of the covenant) of ADONAI (יהוה) followed them.

6:9 And the armed men went before ha kohenim that blew with the shoferot, and the rear guard came after the Aron, [ha kohenim] going on, and blowing with the shoferot.

6:10 And Yehoshua had commanded the people, saying:

You shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall [any] word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall you shout.

6:11 So the ark of  ADONAI (יהוה) marched around the city, going about [it] once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

6:12 And Yehoshua rose early in the morning, and ha kohenim took up the Aron ADONAI (יהוה).

6:13 And seven kohenim bearing shivah (seven) shoferot ha Yovelim (horns) before the ark of ADONAI (יהוה) went on continually, and blew with the shoferot: and the armed men went before them; but the reward came after the Aron ADONAI (יהוה), [ha kohenim] going on, and blowing with the shoferot.

6:14 And the yom ha Sheni they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did sheshet yamim (six days).

6:15   And it came to pass on the Yom ha Shevi'i (seventh day), that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

6:16 And it came to pass at the Shevi'it (7th time), when ha kohenim blew with the shoferot, Yehoshua said to the people, Shout; for ADONAI (יהוה) has given you the city.

6:17 And the city shall be accursed, [even] it, and all that [are] therein, to ADONAI (יהוה): only Rahav the zonah (harlot) shall live, she and all that [are] with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

6:18 And you, in any wise keep [yourselves] from the cherem (accursed thing), lest you make [yourselves] accursed, when you take of the cherem (accursed thing), and make the camp of Yisrael a curse, and trouble it.

6:19 But all the kesef (silver), and zahav (gold), and vessels of brass and iron, [are] consecrated to ADONAI (יהוה): they shall come into the treasury of ADONAI (יהוה).

6:20 So the people shouted when [ha kohenim] blew with the shoferot: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the Shofar, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

6:21 And they utterly destroyed all that [was] in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

6:22 But Yehoshua had said to the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the zonah (harlot)'s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she has, as you sware to her.

6:23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahav, and her father, and her mother, and her achim (brethren), and all that she had; and they brought out all her mishpechot (families), and left them without the camp of Yisrael.

6:24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that [was] therein: only the kesef (silver), and the zahav (gold), and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the beit ADONAI (יהוה).

6:25 And Yehoshua saved Rahav the zonah (harlot) alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwells in Yisrael [even] to this day; because she hid the messengers, which Yehoshua sent to spy out Yericho.

6:26bullet05_fire.gif And Yehoshua adjured [them] at that time, saying:

Cursed [be] the man before ADONAI (יהוה), that rises up and builds this city Yericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his bechor(firstborn), and in his youngest [son] shall he set up the gates of it. [see fulfillment 1 melekhim 16:34]

6:27 So ADONAI (יהוה) was with Yehoshua; and his fame was [noised] throughout all the country.

6:15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day,......on that day they compassed the city seven times.

 Use In the Jewish marriage

The bride circles the groom 7 times is a picture of destroying all the obstacles, hindrances, partitions, the Evil Inclination between the bride and the groom.

Why does the bride do it, not the groom?

Like Israel as the bride of HaShem circles the wall of Jericho 7 times and G-D destroyed the obstacles.

7 is also the number of wholeness; completion.

Since a Jewish wedding is parallel to building a mishkan, HaShem wants to dwell in us. So husband and wife must work together as one soul (unity) in order the Divine Presence can come and dwell in us.
