26:1 In the beginning of the reign of Yehoyakim Ben Yoshiyahu (יאשׁיּהוּ) melekh Yehudah came this word from ADONAI (יהוה), saying,
26:2 Thus said ADONAI (יהוה); Stand in the Khatzer (courtyard) of ADONAI (יהוה)'S house, and speak to all the cities of Yehudah, which come to worship in ADONAI (יהוה)'S house, all the Devarim that I command you to speak to them; diminish not a word:
26:3 If so be they will listen, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings.
26:4 And you shall say to them, thus said ADONAI (יהוה); If you will not listen to Me, to halak in My Torah, which I have set before you,
26:5 To listen to the Divrei My avadim ha Neviim, whom I sent to you, both rising up early, and sending [them], but you have not listened;
26:6 Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
26:7 So the Kohanim and ha Neviim and all the people heard YirmeYahu speaking these Divrei in ha bayit ADONAI (יהוה).
26:8 Now it came to pass, when YirmeYahu had made an end of speaking all that ADONAI (יהוה) had commanded [him] to speak to all the people, that the Kohanim and ha Neviim and all the people took him, saying,
"Thou shall surely die."
26:9 Why have you prophesied in The Name of ADONAI (יהוה), saying:
"This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against YirmeYahu in ha bayit ADONAI (יהוה).
26:10 When the sarim of Yehudah heard these things, then they came up from ha melekh's house to ha bayit ADONAI (יהוה), and sat down in the entry of the new gate of ADONAI (יהוה)'S [house].
26:11 Then spoke the Kohanim and ha Neviim to the sarim and to all the people, saying:
"This man [is] worthy to die; for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.
26:12 Then spoke YirmeYahu to all the sarim and to all the people, saying, ADONAI (יהוה) sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the Devarim that you have heard.
26:13 Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheichem; and ADONAI (יהוה) will repent him of the evil that he has pronounced against you.
26:14 As for me, hinei, I [am] in your hand: do with me as seems good and meet to you.
26:15 But know you for certain, that if you put me to death, you shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth ADONAI (יהוה) has sent me to you to speak all these Devarim in your ears.
26:16 Then said the sarim and all the people to the Kohanim and to ha Neviim; This man [is] not worthy to die: for he has spoken to us in The Name of ADONAI (יהוה) Eloheinu.
26:17 Then rose up certain of the zekenim of the land, and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying,
26:18 Mikah the Morastite prophesied in the days of Chizkiyahu melekh Yehudah, and spoke to all the people of Yehudah, saying:
Thus said ADONAI (יהוה) Tza'vot:
"Tzyon shall be plowed [like] a field, and Yerushalayim shall become heaps, and the mountain of ha bayit as the high places of a forest.
26:19 Did Chizkiyahu melekh Yehudah and all Yehudah put him at all to death? did he not fear ADONAI (יהוה), and besought ADONAI (יהוה), and ADONAI (יהוה) repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.
26:20 And there was also a man that prophesied in The Name ofADONAI (יהוה), Uriyah Ben Shemayah of Kirjat Yearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the Divrei YirmeYahu:
26:21 And when Yehoyakim ha melekh, with all his mighty men, and all the sarim, heard his Devarim, ha melekh sought to put him to death: but when Uriyah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Mitzrayim;
26:22 And Yehoyakim ha melekh sent men into Mitzrayim, [namely], Elnatan Ben Achbor, and [certain] men with him into Mitzrayim.
26:23 And they fetched forth Uriyah out of Mitzrayim, and brought him to Yehoyakim ha melekh; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.
26:24 Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam Ben Shafan was with YirmeYahu, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
