John Chapter 1
Yochanan 1:1בראשית היה הדבר
והדבר היה את האלהים ואלהים
היה הדבר׃
Beresheet hayah haDabar vehaDabar hayah et ha Elohim
ve Elohim hayah haDabar:
In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with Elohim,
and the WORD was Elohim.
Yochanan 1:2הוא היה בראשית את האלהים׃
Hu’ hayah beresheet et ha Elohim:
He was in the beginning
with Elohim:
Yochanan 1:3הכל נהיה על־ידו ומבלעדיו לא נהיה כל־אשר נהיה׃
Hakol nihayah al-yado umibaladayu lo nihayah kol-asher nihayah:
All things were made
through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Yochanan 1:4בו היו חיים והחיים היו אור לבני האדם׃
Bo hayu chaiim vehachaiim hayu ohr libnei
haadam:
In Him was life, and
the life was the light of men.
Yochanan 1:5והאור האיר בחשך והחשך לא השיגו׃
Vehaohr haohr bechoshek vehachoshek lo hasiygo:
And
the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Yochanan 1:6יהי איש שלוח מאת האלהים ושמו יוחנן׃
Vayehi iysh shalukha me et haElohim
ushmo Yochanan:
There was a man sent
from Elohim, whose name was
Yochanan.
Yochanan 1:7הוא בא לעדות להעיד על־האור למען יאמינו כלם על־ידו׃
Hu ba le edut lehaiyd al-ha or lemaan yaamiynu kulam al-yado:
This man came for a
witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
Yochanan 1:8הוא לא־היה האור כי אם־להעיד על־האור׃
Hu lo-hayah haOr ki im-lehaiyd al-haOr:
He was not that Light,
but was sent to
bear witness of that Light.
Yochanan 1:9האור האמתי המאיר לכל־אדם אשר בא אל־העולם׃
HaOr ha emeti hameiyr lekal-adam asher ba
el-haolam:
That
was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
Yochanan 1:10בעולם היה ועל־ידו נהיה העולם והעולם לא ידעו׃
Baolam hayah Ve al-yado nihayah
haolam vehaolam lo yadao:
He was in the world, and
the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
Yochanan 1:11הוא בא בשלו ואשר־המה לו לא קבלהו׃
Hu ba beshelo vaasher-hemah lo lo Kibluhu:
He came to His own, and
His own did not receive Him.
Yochanan 1:12והמקבלים אתו המאמינים בשמו נתן־עז למו להיות בנים
לאלהים׃
Vehamekavlim oto
ha maamiynim beshemo natan-oz lemo lihiot
banim leElohim:
But as
many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become sons of Elohim, to
those who believe in His Name:
Yochanan 1:13אשר לא מדם
ולא מחפץ הבשר אף לא־מחפץ גבר נולדו כי אם־מאלהים׃
Asher lo midam velo mekhefetz habasar af lo-mekhefetz
gever noladu ki im-mi Elohim:
Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh,
nor of the will of man, but of Elohim.
Yochanan 1:14והדבר
נהיה בשר
וישכן בתוכנו ונחזה כבודו ככבוד בן יחיד לאביו רב־חסד ואמת׃
VehaDABAR nihayah basar vayishkon betokenu vanekhezeh kavodi kikavod Ben yachid leAvio rab-Chesed
veEmet:.
And
the WORD
became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of
the Father, full of grace and truth.
Yochanan 1:15ויוחנן העיד עליו ויקרא לאמר:
הנה זה הוא אשר אמרתי הבא אחרי היה לפני כי
קדם־לי היה׃
VeYochanan heiyd alayu vayikra lemor:
“Hineh zeh Hu
asher amarti haba acharei hayah
lepanei ki Kodem-li hayah”:
Yochanan bore witness of Him
and cried out, saying:
"This was He of
whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before
me."
Yochanan 1:16וממלואו לקחנו כלנו חסד על־חסד׃
Umimloo lekakhnu kulanu chesed al-chesed:
And of His fullness we
have all received, and grace for grace.
Yochanan 1:17כי התורה נתנה ביד־משה והחסד והאמת באו על־ידי ישוע המשיח׃
ki haTorah nitnah beyad-Mosheh vehachesed vehaemet bau al-idei Yeshua ha Mashiach.
For
the Torah was given through Mosheh, but grace and truth came through Yeshua the Messiah.
Yochanan 1:18את האלהים לא־ראה איש מעולם הבן היחיד אשר בחיק האב
הוא הודיע׃
Et haElohim lo-ra’ah iysh me olamin haBen hayachid asher becheik haAv
hu hodiy
No one has seen Elohim at any
time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared
Him.
Yochanan 1:19וזאת עדות יוחנן בשלח היהודים כהנים ולוים מירושלים
לשאל אתו מי אתה׃
vezot edut Yochanan beshalkha haYehudim kohanim ve leviim miYerushalayim
lishol “oto mi atah?”.
Now
this is the testimony of Yochanan, when the Yehudim sent kohanim and
Levites from Yerushalayim to ask him:
"Who are you?"
Yochanan 1:20והוא הודה ולא כחש ויודה לאמר לא המשיח אני׃
Vehu’ hodah velo kichesh vayodeh
lemor “lo haMashiach ani”:
He confessed, and did
not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Messiah."
Yochanan 1:21 ויאמרו אליו ומי אתה האליהו אתה ויאמר אינני האתה הנביא
ויען לא׃
Vayomeru eleiv umi atah haEliYahu
atah vayomer einnei haatah ha Naviya vayaan lo:
And they asked him,
"What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are
you the Navi?" And he answered, "No."
Yochanan 1:22 ויאמרו אליו מי־זה אתה למען נשיב את־שלחינו דבר מה־תאמר
לנפשך׃
Vayomeru eleiv mi-zeh atah lamaan nashiv
et-sholcheinu dabar mah-tomar lenafshekh:
Then they said to him:
"Who are you, that we may give an
answer to those who sent us?
What do you say about
yourself?"
Yochanan 1:23 ויאמר אני קול קורא במדבר פנו דרך יהוה כאשר אמר ישעיהו הנביא׃
Vayomer “Ani kol kore bamidbar panu
derek YEHOVAH kaasher
amar YeshaYahu haNaviya”.
He
said: "I am 'THE VOICE OF ONE
CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS: "MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF YEHOVAH,"
' as the Yeshayahu ha Navi
said."
Yochanan 1:24והשלוחים באו מן־הפרושים׃
Vahashalukhim bau min-haPerushim:
Now those
who were sent were from the Perushim.
Yochanan 1:25וישאלהו ויאמרו אליו מדוע אפוא מטביל אתה אם־אינך
המשיח ולא אליהו ולא הנביא׃
Vayishalahu vayomeru
eleiv madoa epoe matavil atah
im-einkha haMashiach velo EliYahu velo
haNaviya.
And
they asked him saying: "Why then do you immerse if you are not the Messiah, nor Eliyahu, nor
the Navi?"
Yochanan 1:26ויען אתם יוחנן ויאמר אנכי מטביל במים ובתוככם עומד
אשר לא ידעתם אתו׃
Vayaan otam Yochanan vayomer anoki matavil
bamayim vebetokakem omed asher
lo yadatem oto:
Yochanan answered them, saying, "I immerse with water, but there
stands One among you whom you do not know.
Yochanan 1:27הוא הבא אחרי אשר היה לפני ואני נקלתי מהתיר שרוך
נעליו׃
Hu haba achrei asher hayah lefenei veani nekalti
mehatir sherokh nealayu:
It is He who, coming
after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to
loose."
Yochanan 1:28וזאת היתה בבית אניה מעבר לירדן אשר יוחנן מטביל שם׃
Vezeot hayatah baBeit Anyah meeber
laYarden asher
Yochanan matavil sham.
These
things were done in Beit Anyah beyond the Yarden, where Yochanan was imersing.
Yochanan 1:29ויהי ממחרת וירא יוחנן את־ישוע
בא אליו ויאמר הנה שה
האלהים הנשא חטאת העולם׃
vayehi mimacharat vayar Yochanan et-Yeshua ba eleiu vayomar: “Hineh
She ha Elohim hanose’ chatat ha olam!”
The next day Yochanan saw Yeshua
coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb
of Elohim who takes away the sin of the world!
Yochanan 1:30זה הוא אשר אמרתי אחרי יבא איש אשר היה לפני כי
קדם־לי היה׃
Zeh Hu asher amarti
acharei yabo iysh asher hayah lefenai ki
kodem-li hayah.
This is He of whom I
said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He
was before me.'
Yochanan 1:31ואני לא ידעתיו כי אם־בעבור יגלה בישראל באתי אני
לטבל במים׃
VeAni lo yadatiu ki im-baabur yigaleh
beYisrael bati ani litebol bamayim:
I did not know Him; but
that He should be revealed to Yisrael, therefore I came immersing with water."
Yochanan 1:32ויעד יוחנן ויאמר חזיתי הרוח כדמות יונה ירדת משמים
ותנח עליו׃
Veyaad Yochanan
vayomar chaziti haRuach kidemut yonah yoredet mishamayim
vatanach alayu.
And Yochanan bore
witness, saying, "I saw the Ruach
descending from heaven like a dove,
and He remained upon Him.
Yochanan 1:33ואני לא ידעתיו והשלח אתי לטבל במים הוא אמר אלי את
אשר־תראה הרוח ירדת ונחה עליו הנה זה הוא אשר
יטבל ברוח הקדש׃
Vaani lo yadatiu vehasholekha
oti litebol bamayim hu amar
elay et asher-tireh
haRuach yoredet venachah alayu hineh zeh
hu asher yitebol b’Ruach haKodesh.
I did not know Him, but
He who sent me to immerse with water
said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Ruach
descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who immerses with the Ruach HaKodesh.'
Yochanan 1:34ואני ראיתי ואעידה כי זה הוא בן־האלהים׃
vaani raiti vaaiyadah ki zeh
hu Ben-haElohim.
And I have seen and
testified that this is Ben haElohim.
Yochanan 1:35ויהי ממחרת ויסף יוחנן ויעמד ועמו שנים מתלמידיו׃
Vayehi mimacharat
veYosef Yochanan veyamod veamo sheneiim
mitalmidayu.
Again,
the next day, Yochanan stood with two of his Talmidim.
Yochanan 1:36ויבט אל־ישוע והוא
מתהלך ויאמר הנה שה האלהים׃
Vayabet
el-Yeshua vehu mithalek vayomar
hineh Seh haElohim.
And looking at Yeshua as He
walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of Elohim!"
Yochanan 1:37ושני תלמידיו שמעו את־דברו וילכו אחרי ישוע׃
Veshenei
talmidayu shamu et-debaro vayeleku acharei Yeshua.
The two Talmidim heard
him speak, and they followed Yeshua.
Yochanan 1:38ויפן ישוע אחריו
וירא אתם הלכים אחריו ויאמר אליהם׃
Vayifen Yeshua achareiu veera otam holkiyim achareiu
vayomer Aleichem:
מַה־תְּבַקֵּשׁוּן
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו רַבִּי אֲשֶׁר יֵאָמֵר מוֹרִי אַיֵּה מְקוֹם מוֹשָׁבֶ׃
Then Yeshua
turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said
to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher),
"where are You staying?"
Yochanan 1:39מה־תבקשו ויאמרו אליו רבי איפה תלין׃
Yochanan 1:40ויאמר אליהם באו וראו ויבאו ויראו את־מקום מלונו
וישבו עמו ביום ההוא והעת כשעה העשירית׃
Vayomer aleichem bou
verai vayaboeu vayiru et-mekom melono vayeshbu imo bayom hahu
wehayet kashaah haasiyriyt.
He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was
staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
Yochanan 1:41ואנדרי אחי שמעון פטרוס היה אחד מן־השנים אשר שמעו
מאת יוחנן וילכו אחריו׃
VaAndray achi Shimon Petros hayah echad min-hashenaim asher
shamau meet Yochanan vayeleku acharei.
Yochanan 1:42הוא מצא ראשונה את שמעון אחיו ויאמר אליו מצאנו
את־המשיח׃
Hu
matza rishonah et Shimon achiyu vayomer elayu matzanu
et-haMashiach.
He
first found his own brother Shimon, and said to him, "We have found the Mashiach.
Yochanan 1:43ויביאהו
אל־ישוע ויהי כהביט אליו ישוע ויאמר שמעון בן־יוחנן לך יקרא כיפא והוא ביונית
פטרוס׃
Yochanan 1:44ויהי
ממחרת ויואל ישוע לצאת הגלילה וימצא את־פילפוס
ויאמר אליו לך אחרי׃
Yochanan 1:45ופילפוס
מבית־צידה עיר אנדרי ופטרוס׃
Yochanan 1:46ויפגע
פילפוס את־נתנאל ויאמר אליו מצאנו את אשר כתב משה בספר התורה והנביאים את־ישוע בן־יוסף מנצרת׃
Yochanan 1:47ויאמר
אליו נתנאל המנצרת יצא טוב ויאמר אליו בא וראה׃
Yochanan 1:48וירא
ישוע את־נתנאל בא לקראתו ויאמר עליו
הנה באמת בן־ישראל אשר אין־בו רמיה׃
Yochanan 1:49ויאמר
אליו נתנאל איך ידעתני ויען ישוע ויאמר לו בטרם
קרא לך פילפוס ואתה תחת התאנה אנכי ראיתיך׃
Yochanan 1:50ויען
נתנאל ויאמר אליו רבי אתה בן־אלהים אתה הוא מלך ישראל׃
Yochanan 1:51ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו יען אשר הגדתי לך כי־תחת התאנה ראיתיך האמנת הנה גדלות מאלה תראה׃ (1:52) ויאמר אליו אמן אמן אני אמר לכם מעתה תראו השמים נפתחים ומלאכי אלהים עלים וירדים על בן־האדם׃
